It can also be helpful finding a READ poster with a celebrity holding the book that will the THE BIG READ -- the initiative of the NEA to bring reading to the forefront of American Lives. Or make your own READ poster for the book your library is using for THE BIG READ.

Actually I think ALA should work with the NEA to make celebrity READ posters for all THE BIG READ books on the NEA list.

Do you have some thoughts on what kind of paper to use to print out the READ posters.

My library just bought a large format printer (HP 500 series) and I'm not sure what kind of roll paper to use. Or do you think it is best to use large sheets (24 x 36) of paper

I downloaded an audio version of "Pride and Prejudice" for free on iTunes and it's so fun to get more of the story than what I'm used to seeing in the Keira Knightley movie version. Knowing the general story and picturing the characters after seeing the movie makes reading the book even more fun. Next, I'll read Jane Eyre. (I know! I should have read both of these books by now!!!)

I'm transferring schools this year, but still teaching kindergarten. My wife and I were at a social for the new teachers to the school and one of the teachers asked us what our favorite books were. Funny, while we both like to read a lot, the books we both came up with happened to be non fiction.

I know what you mean about favorite book. I could list maybe 20 of my favorites. And, my list changes over time. For example, as a young college student, I loved "Atlas Shrugged", but now, I'm kind of bothered with it. I can't imagine a life without books. I'm glad there are people like you around promoting reading. Kids these days are reading less and less and gaming and networking more and more.

Hi
Our library did THE BIG READ last year with "The Great Gatsby" -- I wish I knew there was a poster of a celebrity holding the book. In the spring of 2008 when THE BIG READ WAS "To Kill a Mockingbird" I made some read posters of our local officials holding that book.

In 2009 our BIG READ will be "Their Eyes Were Watching God."

Do you know if ALA has any READ posters with a celebrity holding that book?

Hi Julie!

A coworker tried the READ Mini Posters link (last link under the blogroll) and it took her straight to the page, so I'm not sure what the problem is.
If it still won't work for you, here's the address:
http://www.ala.org/ala/productsandpublications/READ_Mini_Posters.cfm

Hope that works!

When I click on the blogroll link to "READ Mini Posters", a page called "related links" opens, then the ALA store opens where I can purchase the READ CD. I would love to find the page where I can insert a picture into a READ mini poster.

Thanks,
Julie

Hi Susan,

Thanks for your comment!

The term "Blogroll" refers to the place on a blog where one can list links to other blogs. For this blog, we also link to places like the ALA Homepage and the READ Mini Poster maker that is refered to in this post.

The blogroll is located on the right-hand side of the page, under the "Search", 4th section down.

Hope this helps!
